About this year’s exam:
The 2026 Addiction Medicine exam will be the final administration offering eligibility through the Clinical Practice Pathway. Physicians who wish to qualify based on clinical experience must apply during this cycle. Learn more.
2026 Exam and application timeline
· Extended first deadline (no late fee): Aug. 3, 2026
· Final deadline: Aug. 11, 2026 (late fee applies)
· Exam dates: Sept. 9–11, 2026
Eligibility requirements
· MD and DO physicians are eligible to apply
· Active, unrestricted state medical license
· Active primary board certification
· Completion of an Addiction Medicine fellowship OR
· At least 1,000 hours of Addiction Medicine clinical practice within the last two years
